After a rigorous application and acceptance process, pitch development support and in-person pitching, the Biofest Invest 2024 winner is NeuraStasis, as startup. NeuraStasis seeks to improve health outcomes for stroke survivors through the use of neurostimulation. The Houston startup was founded in 2021 by Dr. Kirt Gill and Joe Upchurch in an effort to address the rehabilitation plateaus in stroke recovery. Their technology includes a wearable headset that allows nerve stimulation during rehabilitation. NeuraStasis was recently awarded $1.1M from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
VitaBone Medical, Inc. is a biotechnology company focused on regenerative medicine in the area of bone injuries. Founded by Dr. Vaida Glatt, VitaBone Medical seeks to accelerate the healing process of complex bone injuries and defects by developing a natural carrier, Biomimetic Hematoma, to improve bone regeneration. Their technology is licensed from UT Health San Antonio and received an award in 2020 from the Translational and Entrepreneurial Research Fund to work towards clinical applications.
