Current Priorities
BioMedSA brings the ecosystem and the community together to advocate for the industry’s growth and improved patient care. Transforming policy and the operational landscape starts with the relationships we’ve built with our members and advocacy partners.
- Increased federal, state and local funding for biomedical companies
- SBIR/STTR grant matching fund program for Texas
- Increase quantity and types of local wet lab space
- Improved transparency and timeliness of CMS reviews of new products
- State and DoW investment in the Trauma Research and Combat Casualty Care Collaborative (TRC4)
- Increase non-stop flights to/from SAT.
- Increase mental health options for those in need, including providers and beds dedicated to mental health patients.
- Increase the availability of telehealth and the inclusion of telehealth in care programs.
- Increase in resources for growing graduate medical education (GME) slots, modernizing programs, and improving facilities.
Advocacy Partners
BioMedSA successfully advocated for the following initiatives:
- Establishment of the Dementia Prevention Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT) for R&D funding in Texas
- SBIR/STTR Grant Matching Program in the City of San Antonio
- Nonstop Flight from SAT to DCA
- New federal biomedical funding agency, ARPA-H, to locate hub in TX
- Increased availability of start-up wet lab space
