Dr. Georgia McCann has made significant contributions to the field of gynecologic oncology. She has authored or co-authored over 35 papers in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and research of cervical, endometrial, ovarian, and vulvar cancers. Notable publications include studies on robotic hysterectomy for endometrial cancer in obese patients and targeting constitutively-activated STAT3 in hypoxic ovarian cancer. In 2016, she founded the Purple Heals support group for women with gynecologic cancers, the first of its kind in San Antonio. Dr. McCann is also the site principal investigator for a multicenter surgical trial sponsored by NRG Oncology and the National Cancer Institute, comparing two surgical procedures in women with BRCA1 mutations to assess reduced risk of ovarian cancer. Dr. McCann also has advanced surgical training in robotic and laparoscopic procedures, radical pelvic and reconstructive surgery, for the diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers and complicated benign gynecologic conditions
