Who’s Who in San Antonio: Alison Wiesenthal, MD, FACP, FAAHPM

Dr. Alison Wiesenthal is the current Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). Stepping into this role in March of 2020, Wiesenthal became the first civilian to hold the position. She founded the first interdisciplinary Palliative Care Service to the Department of Defense in 2017. Her current role also includes supervision for the Center for the Intrepid – a facility dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of those who serve in our armed forces, primarily amputees and burn injuries during combat. In addition, Dr. Wiesenthal has worked with STRAC (Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council) in the Pandemic Medical Operations Group.

A San Antonio native, Dr. Wiesenthal is double-board certified internal medicine and palliative medicine and completed a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New Your City. Medical school training began at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and then a residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.

Dr. Wiesenthal was recently recognized as a San Antonio Business Journal Top 40 Under 40.
