BioMedSA New Members: August 2023

BioMedSA’s Board of Directors approved 4 new memberships in August 2023: Blaze Biotech, Carolina Precision, Kowa and Qana.

Blaze Biotech is a medical device development firm in San Antonio that works with individuals and small companies seeking to create and grow medical device businesses with the goal of divesting. They review concepts and IP potential as well as explore market opportunities to help companies move from idea to commercialization.

Carolina Precision Technologies (CPT) is a manufacturer of complex, high precision medical device and aerospace solutions: precision spinal and orthopedic implants / medical instruments, as well as tight-tolerance turned parts for aviation, brake and wheel, landing gear, fire detection, suppression and oxygen systems. Their headquarters are in North Carolina with facilities in Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Kowa‘s Thermocuff technology uses air instead of water to cool and/or heat soft tissue injures. The extruded netting functions as a “Chinese finger trap” method of sealing around anatomy with sensors providing real time feedback for temperature control. The nozzle can be adjusted like a water hose to focus airflow on a single point to treat tendinitis or adjusted to disperse airflow for joint effusion.

Qana Therapeutics is developing treatments for cancer using a nanoparticle delivery platform, targeting functional markers of tumor metabolism.  Their first application of this platform technology is adrenocortical carcinoma, a rare pediatric malignancy with a 5-year survival rate of less than 35%. They are based in Austin, TX.
